The four stages

What each stage actually means

Every item on this page sits in exactly one of these four. The label is the promise — nothing more is implied by appearing here at all.

Live

Built and in the product

You can use it today on an account that has been verified and has a bank account linked. It is documented, supported, and covered by the plans page.

Commitment level We stand behind it
Building

Work is underway now

Someone is actively designing and integrating it. It is not available to any account, and it can still fail its decision gates and stop.

Commitment level Effort, not a date
Next

Intended to follow

We know what we want to build and roughly why it comes next. Nobody has started it, and the partners it depends on have not all agreed.

Commitment level Direction only
Exploring

Still a question

We are not sure this should exist in this shape. It is on the page because businesses ask about it, not because we have decided to build it.

What sits in each stage

Read this top to bottom as decreasing certainty, not as a schedule. Nothing below the first block is available on an account today.

Live

In the product today

Everything Atlas Pay does right now, across 28 countries. This is the only stage you should make decisions on.

  • Payment linksOne-off or reusable, shared by WhatsApp, email, social, or text. Fix the amount or let the customer enter their own.
  • QR codesPrint it, display it, or hold up your screen. One code works all day, at a fixed or open amount.
  • ContractsThe customer reviews the terms, agrees, then pays a deposit or the full amount. Delivered by email.
  • SubscriptionsRecurring billing from weekly to yearly, with an optional free trial of any length in days.
  • eCommerceA no-code product catalogue in the merchant portal, or a custom checkout built on the API.
  • Gift cardsCreate and sell digital gift cards alongside your products.
  • Three surfaces, one accountMobile app for iOS and Android, a native desktop app for Mac and Windows, and the merchant portal in any browser.
  • WordPress and WooCommercePay buttons, editor blocks, and WooCommerce checkout on a site you already run.
Commitment: we stand behind itCaveat: Nigeria is in early access rather than general availability

Building

Work underway

Being designed and integrated now. Not available to any account, and still able to fail a decision gate and stop.

  • Card IssuingVirtual and physical cards with spending controls, instant issuance, and an API-first design — aimed at fintech startups, employee expense cards, and payout cards for gig workers. Waitlist only.
  • Chrome extensionAsking for a payment from the browser without switching to the portal or the app.
  • ShopifyAtlas Pay as a payment option inside an existing Shopify store, settling to the same bank account as everything else.
Commitment: effort, not a dateGated on: the decision gates below

Next

Direction only

Intended to follow the Building work. Not started, not scheduled, and dependent on partners and regulators we do not control.

  • Nigeria at general availabilityMoving the market out of early access once onboarding and payouts hold up at volume.
  • More markets off the waitlistBusinesses outside the 28 join a waitlist today. Which country opens next depends on what a local payout partner can support.
  • More country pagesDetail pages exist for Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Nigeria, Ghana, the United States, and Canada. The rest of the list deserves the same treatment.
Commitment: direction onlyGated on: partner agreements and regulatory approval

Exploring

No commitment

Open questions. On the page because businesses ask about them, not because we have decided to build them in this shape.

  • Approval thresholdsRequiring a second person to approve a refund above an amount you set, on top of the audit trail Pro already keeps.
  • More local payout currenciesNot every live market has a currency listed. Whether we can add one is a question for each local partner, not a single decision.
  • Deeper reportingSomething between the CSV export on Pro and a full accounting integration, for businesses that have outgrown the first and do not want the second.
Commitment: noneStatus: may never be built

Known issues live here too. When something in the product is broken and we already know about it, it is written on this page rather than left for you to discover. If you have hit something that is not listed, tell support — that is how it gets here.

Decision gates

What unreleased work has to pass

Card Issuing is the largest thing in Building, so it carries the most explicit gates — but every unreleased item goes through the same five. Each one can stop the work, and none of them is ours alone to answer.

1

Partner and licence fit

Is there a partner who will actually serve businesses in our markets, under a licence that covers what we want to offer? A capability that works in one country and nowhere else we are live does not pass this gate.

2

Compliance and controls

What are we obliged to check, keep, and report — and can we do it without pushing that work onto a shop owner? We will not ship something where the compliance answer depends on nobody looking too closely.

3

Records and reconciliation

Can the new thing be recorded so it reconciles against the same account as a card payment, including refunds and reversals? If the books do not close, the feature is not finished, however well the front of it works.

4

User comprehension

Can a business owner understand what they are getting, what it will cost, and what it does not do — from the screen in front of them alone? If it needs explaining, it is not ready.

5

Operations

Can we support it on a bad day? Failed transfers, partner outages, and disputes all need an answer before launch, not after the first one happens to a customer.

?

If a gate fails

The item moves back a stage or leaves the roadmap, and we say so here rather than quietly leaving it listed. A roadmap that only ever moves forward is a marketing document, not a roadmap.

How to read this

Three rules we hold ourselves to

No dates on unbuilt work

We do not publish target dates for Building, Next, or Exploring items. A date we cannot control is a promise we cannot keep, and it would tell you less than the stage label already does.

Stages move both ways

An item can move backwards. If a partner falls through or a gate fails, it drops a stage or comes off the page, and the change shows up here rather than being left to age quietly.

Only Live is on the plans page

If something is not Live, it is not part of any plan you can buy. Roadmap items are never bundled into a quote, and we will not price them until they exist.

Plans, not commitments

Nothing on this page outside the Live block is a commitment to deliver. Building, Next, and Exploring items depend on partner agreements, regulatory approval, and technical findings we have not made yet. They may change shape, move stage, or be dropped without notice, and no date is stated or implied anywhere on this page. Buy Atlas Pay for what it does today.
